Back from our retreat in San Miguel, 2015!

We just returned from an incredible trip to San Miguel de Allende. Our Tesoro Del Corazon art retreat was a resounding success with most folks wanting to return next year! It is not surprising because San Miguel is such a magical town especially during Dia de los Muertos and this year was no exception. The town was festively decorated with flags and flowers. Marigolds were draped around front doors and windows and altars popped up throughout the week around the Jardin.

On top of all this was the fact that we were there to create art! Wow, the Santos Real project turned out to be something truly special. Each Santos had a charm of their own and the loving care to detail was evident in each sculpture.

We were delighted to have Elitia Hart from Canada join us as our first guest artist this year. Her work in pewter embossing is superb and we know that participants thoroughly enjoyed learning from her.

Of course, the time flew by all too quickly and we were soon having our farewell dinner in the shadows of the beautiful Parroquia. We will all miss the time spent together but know that many of the friendships created will last a lifetime....and so will the memories of San Miguel, 2015.

We are already in the planning stages for our retreat in 2016 and have tentative dates penciled in for October 27-November 4
More info will be announced in mid-January....stay tuned!
(PS. Leslie is taking a much needed vacation from her computer until January!)
Happy Thanksgiving!

The Royal Saints come marching in!

We have have been very busy preparing for our next retreat in beautiful San Miguel de Allende, Mexico for Day of the Dead, 2015. Our progressive workshop this year will culminate in a three- dimensional Santos figure. Each year the instructors get together at each of their homes to teach the workshop that they will be doing in Mexico. This is helpful to both complete the project themselves and to make the learning experience better for participants.

Here are a few examples of our Santos:

There are so many personalities that come out when sculpting these wonderful "characters" and we can't wait to see what students come up with this year! The faces will be sculpted in Lynn Leahy's class while the mid-section/torso and arms will be done in Helen Shafer Garcia's class. The base portion using polymer clay will be taught in Laurie Mika's class and the metal crowns, wings and trim pieces will be completed in this year's first guest instructor, Elitia Hart's class.
Looking forward to seeing you soon! Hasta luego!
